The growing global demand for aluminum increases the interest to research alumina extraction from non-bauxitic sources, especially kaolin. In this study, kaolin was calcined using muffle furnace for a predetermined time at different temperature conditions. Leaching behavior of aluminum using hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid were investigated and compared. The highest aluminum dissolutions were 69.39 and 77.45% by using sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid respectively. Recovery of alumina from the AlCl3 precursor using sol-gel process produces alumina with 93.62% purity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
