Abstrakt: An Fe-4Si steel is developed to produce a non-oriented silicon steel for electric motor application. The steel samples were subjected to two different levels of reduction during hot rolling, 50% (HR50) and 70% (HR70). Both of the hot rolled samples then underwent cold rolling followed by annealing at 800°C. The microstructure and grain size distribution of the annealed samples do not show any significant difference. The hardness of the two samples were measured using micro Vicker's hardness tester and a very minor increase is observed in their hardness due to reduction variation during hot rolling. Their hardness values are 260 VHN and 262 VHN for HR50 and HR70 samples, respectively. The distribution of their crystal orientations is observed using neutron diffraction technique. The highest intensities observed are at ϕ2 = 55° (i.e., (10 7 7) [1 -1 0]) and ϕ2=50° (i.e., (1 1 3) [8 11 -1]) slices for HR50 and HR70, respectively. For the sample with lower reduction level, another high intensity component is found in α-fiber, which is {223} <110> component. For the higher reduction level sample, the intensity of α-fiber reduces, conversely, the intensity of cube increase. Furthermore, cube in HR70 sample is observed as the strongest component among all components in η-fiber and θ-fiber of both samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
