This article discusses a case study involving the use of dermoscopy and UV-induced fluorescence dermoscopy (UVFD) to diagnose a skin condition. The study highlights an artifact observed during the examination, which was yellow fluorescence caused by the application of topical turmeric. Turmeric, a widely used condiment and medicinal ingredient, contains curcumin, a compound responsible for its fluorescent nature. The article emphasizes the importance of recognizing and considering artifact fluorescence when using UVFD in dermatological examinations. The study was conducted in India and provides cultural context regarding the use of turmeric in religious practices and skincare routines. [Extracted from the article] |
