This article discusses a case of benign metastasizing leiomyomatosis (BML), a rare condition characterized by the spread of smooth muscle tissue to different organs, primarily the lungs. The patient, a 41-year-old woman, presented with lower back pain and underwent imaging tests that revealed an extensive pelvic tumor consistent with leiomyoma, as well as masses in the right psoas and paravertebral muscles. Biopsies confirmed the diagnosis of BML, and the patient underwent surgery and treatment with GnRH analogs. The article also discusses the pathophysiology of BML, which is believed to involve the hematogenous spread of leiomyoma emboli during uterine surgery. [Extracted from the article] |
