Abstrakt: A new report discusses research conducted at Sohag University in Egypt on peritonitis, specifically spontaneous fungal peritonitis (SFP) in cirrhotic patients with ascites. The study aimed to evaluate the frequency and risk factors for SFP development in these patients. The researchers conducted a cross-sectional study on 154 cirrhotic patients with ascites and found that SFP is not a rare complication of liver cirrhosis with ascites, and it should be considered in patients with high Model of End-stage Liver Disease and Child-Turcotte-Pugh scores. The study provides valuable insights into the diagnosis and management of SFP in this patient population. [Extracted from the article]
