Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Sapienza University of Rome investigated the effectiveness of topiramate (TPM) and levetiracetam (LEV) as first-line antiseizure medication in women of childbearing potential with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). The study found that women treated with TPM had higher risks of treatment failure and withdrawal, and were less likely to achieve seizure freedom at 12 months compared to women treated with LEV. The study suggests that there is a low tendency among clinicians to use TPM in this population, and the available data on effectiveness do not support its use. [Extracted from the article]
