A recent study conducted by the Department of Clinical Sciences at NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh, North Carolina, investigated the use of integrated time nanosecond pulse irreversible electroporation (INSPIRE) as a novel tumor ablation modality for treating spontaneous equine melanoma. The study utilized a custom applicator and pulse generation system to administer INSPIRE treatments to horses with melanoma tumors. The results showed that higher voltage treatments significantly reduced tumor volumes, with some tumors being completely eliminated. This non-invasive approach has the potential to expand the use of pulsed electric fields in veterinary medicine, particularly in cases where general anesthesia is not recommended. Further research is needed to validate the efficacy of INSPIRE as a solid tumor treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
