A recent study conducted by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine found that a three-minute nebulization of gentamicin in healthy dogs resulted in therapeutic concentrations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) while remaining below toxic levels in the blood. The study compared the effects of nebulization for three minutes versus ten minutes and found that both BALF and serum gentamicin concentrations were higher after the ten-minute protocol. However, the BALF-to-serum ratio did not differ between the protocols. The researchers concluded that a three-minute nebulization of gentamicin is effective against aminoglycoside-sensitive bacteria while minimizing the risk of toxicity. [Extracted from the article] |
