A recent study conducted in Lahore, Pakistan examined the prevalence of tooth agenesis (congenitally missing teeth) among children with cleft lip and palate (CLP). The study utilized Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) radiographs to analyze the missing teeth in CLP patients. The results showed a significant number of missing teeth inside the cleft, with the CLPL and CLPR types being the most common. Maxillary first premolars were found to be more frequently missing outside the cleft region in CLPL and CLPB types. The study concluded that unilateral CLP patients had a higher incidence of tooth agenesis compared to bilateral and median cleft cases. [Extracted from the article] |
