A case report from Amsterdam University Medical Center discusses the successful management of carbamazepine intoxication using hemodialysis followed by continuous venovenous hemodialysis. An 18-year-old woman presented to the emergency department after ingesting 43 extended-release tablets of carbamazepine. Despite high plasma levels of carbamazepine, her symptoms were less severe than expected. With the combination of hemodialysis and continuous venovenous hemodialysis, the patient's carbamazepine plasma levels decreased rapidly and she stabilized. This case report provides evidence for the effective treatment of carbamazepine intoxication using these methods. [Extracted from the article] |
