A new report from University Hospital in Sousse, Tunisia provides valuable local surveillance data on the epidemiology and antifungal susceptibility of invasive Candida species. The study analyzed Candida strains recovered from hospitalized patients over a five-year period (2016-2020). The predominant species identified was Candida albicans, followed by C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, and C. glabrata. The study found resistance rates to antifungal drugs, with the highest resistance observed for fluconazole. The research aims to guide appropriate empiric and targeted antifungal therapy.
