Enhanced photocatalytic activity of α-Mn2O3@SiO2 core shell nanocomposites against methylene blue and rhodamine B dyes.

Abstrakt: Herein, the design of α-Mn2O3@SiO2 core–shell nanocomposites (α-Mn2O3@SiO2 CSNs) and its suitability as photocatalyst against methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) dyes is reported. The Powder XRD analysis validated the phase and structure while FTIR analysis confirmed the functional groups. The VSM analysis confirmed the soft paramagnetic nature and HRTEM images categorically provided visual evidence for the formation of α-Mn2O3@SiO2 CSNs. The XPS analysis revealed the existence of Mn 2p, O 1 s, C 1 s, and Si 2p states with their corresponding atomic percentages. The photocatalytic experiment performed against MB and RhB dyes shows remarkable degradation efficiency of 91% and 98% for α-Mn2O3@SiO2 CSNs as against 89% and 92% for α-Mn2O3 NPs respectively.
