This document is an editorial from the Lumat Special Issue in the International Journal on Math, Science, and Technology Education. The editorial discusses the unique history of the special issue, which is a collection of selected papers from the 27th International Conference on Mathematical Views (MAVI27) that was originally planned to take place in Bremen, Germany in 2020 but had to be switched to an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
