An ex-situ conservation area for dry lowland plants, the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens contains 11.076 live plant specimen collections from 191 families, with a range of habitus in trees, herbs, shrubs, and lianas. Protection of collection plants needs to be done intensively, especially for plants with tree habitus. Naturally, tree habitus undergoes weathering processes both biotically and abiotically. Trees that have undergone a weathering process will be vulnerable to the risk of breaking or falling. This risk can endanger other plant collections, and the safety of visitors or researchers at the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a priority scale in protection, supervision, maintenance, and handling activities, especially for critical trees. This research aims to determine the health condition of Hura crepitans tree and its subsequent handling. The method used is visually using International Society of Arboricultre (ISA) method and handling critical plant priority scales using Arbosonic tomograph. The result showed that 11 trees of H. crepitans had a low to high or critical risk priority scale. There was 1 individual with a level of damage of more than 75% of the main trunk, trunk diameter of 194.90 cm, and a height of up to 25.5 m which was included in the critical tree category. The critical H. crepitans tree is at risk to collection of fern plants in the fernarium gardens, surrounding building (houses, inn, conference halls), fences, vehicle parking lots, etc. Based on this, further handling is carried out by cutting it down. The results of this study are expected to be taken into consideration in preserving plants and protecting the safety of visitors/researchers from risky H. crepitans trees and other risky trees in the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens.
