Abstrakt: Jonathan Tsou's monograph, "Philosophy of Psychiatry," offers a new perspective on the nature of mental disorders. Tsou argues that mental disorders are biological kinds with harmful effects, countering anti-psychiatry critics while avoiding the pitfalls of alternative analyses. He provides evidence that conditions like schizophrenia and depression are driven by identifiable biological mechanisms, similar to somatic diseases. Tsou also proposes a revised definition of mental disorder as natural (biological) kinds that lead to harmful consequences. While his proposal raises questions about the understanding of harm and the potential categorization of normal human personality traits, the book provides a valuable contribution to the field of philosophy of psychiatry.
