The aim of this work was to compare the effect of season and parity on reproductive performance of pigs. We observed the effect of season and parity on the number of total and live born piglets, lactation length, gestation length, farrowing interval and interval from weaning to oestrus. In the experiment, were evaluated sows of a large white x landrace (LW x L) hybrid combination. The results showed that the number of live born piglets was higher in the summer period than in the winter period (p<0.05). There was no signification in the number of all piglets born between the periods. The farrowing period was significantly longer in the summer period than in the winter period (p<0.05). The above results indicate that the season can significantly affect some parameters of reproductive performance of pigs. Parity did not have a significant effect on the length of the farrowing interval. The number of total born piglets increased until 3th parity and then started to decrease. The number of total and live born piglets increased significantly until the 4th parity (p<0.05). The results of the study show that it is necessary to constantly check housing conditions in pig farming, regardless of the season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
