This article reports on a case of a 14-year-old boy with resistant hypertension. The boy presented with symptoms such as pedal edema and periorbital puffiness, and was found to have high blood pressure. Despite being treated with multiple antihypertensive medications, his condition did not improve. Further investigations revealed that he had Takayasu arteritis, a condition that causes narrowing of the renal arteries and can lead to renovascular hypertension. After unsuccessful attempts at endovascular intervention, the boy underwent successful extensive open surgical repair. The article highlights the importance of considering surgical options for patients who do not respond to medical or minimally invasive treatments. [Extracted from the article] |
