Abstrakt: This article discusses a special topic volume of Near Eastern Archaeology that focuses on new approaches to the study of stamp seals from the southern Levant. The volume is the result of a four-year project called Stamp Seals from the Southern Levant (SSSL), which aimed to publish all stamp seals from excavated contexts in the region. The project assembled an international team of researchers and created the Corpus of Stamp Seals from the Southern Levant (CSSL) database, an open-access research tool. The two special issues of Near Eastern Archaeology introduce the SSSL project, the CSSL database, and the new questions and approaches brought by the team. The second issue explores interdisciplinary approaches to stamp seals and their implications for understanding the economic, religious, social, and gender history of the southern Levant. The article concludes with a statement from Othmar Keel, the biblical scholar whose vision inspired the SSSL project, expressing his admiration for the work done by the team and the advancements made in glyptic research for the southern Levant.
