A recent study led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has found that chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells, which have been successful in treating blood cancers, may also hold promise for treating age-related diseases caused by the accumulation of senescent cells. The study showed that an infusion of CAR T cells targeting senescent cells improved metabolic function in older mice and mice with a high-fat diet. The treatment also prevented metabolic decline in young, healthy mice. Further research is needed to determine if this approach can extend lifespan and improve overall health.
