Researchers at Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Uttar Pradesh, India, have conducted a study on the use of fly ash (FA) as a fertilizer for sustainable agriculture. Fly ash is a by-product of brick kilns and thermal power plants and is typically disposed of as waste. However, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Central Pollution Control Board of India have developed guidelines for using FA as a soil conditioner and modifier. The study found that lower amounts of FA (25 gm/m²) can improve the nitrogen fixation efficiency and productivity of legume crops, while higher amounts (50, 100 gm/m²) have a detrimental impact. The research suggests that FA can be used as a fertilizer to enhance the growth of legume crops. [Extracted from the article] |
