A recent study conducted by the University of Airlangga in Surabaya, Indonesia, examined the role of non-structural protein 1 (NS1) as a predictor of the severity of dengue virus infection (DVI). The study found that leukocyte and platelet levels had a significant effect on NS1 positivity, with leukocytes being a more significant predictor than platelets. The NS1 value was able to distinguish between undifferentiated fever and dengue fever in children with a sensitivity of 76.0% and specificity of 87.5%. However, the NS1 value was not a reliable predictor in adults. The research concluded that leukocytes and platelets influenced the NS1 value. [Extracted from the article] |
