A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Siena in Italy investigated the efficacy of two food supplements containing a combination of selected probiotics and either b-glucans or elderberry extract for the immune system. The study found that the combination of probiotics with these natural products had a synergistic effect and showed potential in developing innovative formulations for food supplements. The researchers observed that the supplements mainly upregulated the expression of IL-6 and IL-10 in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) but not in human monocytes (THP-1), indicating a concentration-dependent mode of action. This research provides valuable insights into the use of herbal and natural products in strengthening immunity. [Extracted from the article] |
