Researchers from the School of Medical Education in Kerala, India conducted a study to determine the in-vitro phagocytic activity of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) against oral isolates of Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility. The study found that there was a significant reduction in phagocytic activity for clinical isolates of Candida species compared to the standard strain of C.albicans. However, the lytic activity varied among the clinical isolates. The research provides valuable insights into the control of Candida infections and the effectiveness of PBMCs in combating them.
