Abstrakt: A study conducted in northwest Ethiopia has found that individuals with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who have recurrent visceral leishmaniasis (VL) may potentially contribute to the transmission of Leishmania parasites in areas with anthroponotic transmission, such as East Africa. The study observed 10 HIV-positive individuals with chronic VL and 3 individuals with asymptomatic Leishmania infection. The results showed that these individuals had high levels of Leishmania parasitemia for up to 37 months, suggesting that they could be highly infectious and act as "Leishmania superspreaders." Further studies are needed to confirm their infectiousness. [Extracted from the article]
