Abstrakt: Distributed Generation Units (DGs) are an effective solution to the power loss problem of the distribution network, which increases at peak demand. Also, it helps to meet consumer demands and needs. Many optimization algorithms have been applied to achieve the optimal location and size of DG units. Although this technique reduced active power loss, it has several problems, such as complexity, accuracy, and premature convergence to a local optimum. This work aims to improve the performance of the distribution network by considering the minimization of active and reactive power loss, reducing the voltage deviation, and finding the solution in a shorter time. Therefore, an improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is suggested to solve the problem of convergence at a local optimum. The proposed algorithm considers DG units that produce only active power. Two test cases are used to validate the performance of our proposed technique: an IEEE network with 33 nodes and another with 69 nodes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
