Abstrakt: Cultured epidermal cell sheets and bioengineered skin equivalents are widely used for skin reconstruction. Cryostorage of keratinocytes is one of the steps of the bioengineered products manufacture; therefore, it is important to study its effect on the viability of these cells. We investigated the preservation of morphogenetic potential by keratinocytes after cryostorage and found that cryostorage did not alter the dynamics of their proliferation. The population of keratinocytes is known to be highly heterogeneous in terms of proliferative and regenerative abilities. Our analysis of the pattern of keratinocyte death in suspension before and after cryostorage revealed the most vulnerable population with a high level of α6 integrin expression and a low level of transferrin receptor expression. This data must be taken into account in the course of tissue engineering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
