A recent study conducted at the University of Tennessee found that synchronous tracheostomy and gastrostomy placement in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients resulted in a shorter length of stay (LOS) compared to tracheostomy first. The researchers compared two groups of TBI patients and found that the group that underwent synchronous tracheostomy and gastrostomy had a shorter LOS. The study also found that there was no significant difference in the rate of unnecessary gastrostomy between the two groups. These findings suggest that synchronous gastrostomy may be beneficial for TBI patients in terms of reducing hospital stay. [Extracted from the article] |
