A recent study conducted at the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre in Brazil examined the surgical treatment of severe pediatric tracheobronchomalacia. The study found that surgical management should be reserved for the most severe cases and tailored to the specific type and location of tracheobronchomalacia. The researchers collected data on symptoms, age at diagnosis, comorbidities, previous surgery, operative approach, follow-up time, and outcomes. The study concluded that individualized surgical procedures based on the underlying cause of tracheobronchomalacia can improve respiratory symptoms in 80% of children. [Extracted from the article] |
