Abstrakt: A recent study from the University of South China explores the potential of repurposing the drug disulfiram for cancer therapy. Disulfiram, which is currently used to treat chronic alcoholism, has shown promising antitumor effects when combined with copper. The drug has been found to target various types of cancer, including glioblastoma, breast cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and melanoma. The study highlights the mechanisms by which disulfiram and copper inhibit tumor growth, including the induction of reactive oxygen species and inhibition of cell death signaling pathways. Additionally, disulfiram has shown potential in targeting cancer stem cells and increasing the sensitivity of chemo-resistant and radio-resistant patients. Further research on disulfiram may provide valuable insights for clinical tumor treatment. [Extracted from the article]
