This article discusses the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the field of neurosurgery. The authors conducted a study using AI-equipped panoramic vision systems to monitor and quantify the learning curve associated with the placement of an External Ventricular Drain (EVD) on a trainer head. The AI successfully identified and recorded fundamental parameters of the procedure, such as the number of catheter insertion attempts and time taken. The study validates the use of AI in calculating and assessing objective scoring systems for surgical procedures, which could provide valuable performance metrics for training and education purposes.
