This article, published in the Journal of Neurological Surgery, explores the use of a modified frailty index (mFI-5) to predict surgical outcomes and hospitalization length in patients with superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD). The study reviewed SSCD surgical repairs from 2011 to 2022 and applied the mFI-5 tool to categorize patients into robust, pre-fail, and frail groups based on their total points. The analysis included 386 SSCD patients and found that frailty was associated with an extended length of hospital stay, but did not significantly impact symptomatic response following surgery.
