This article, published in the Journal of Neurological Surgery, explores the endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) as a surgical option for accessing the petrous apex. The study describes the anatomical landmarks and technical variations of the EEA through cadaveric dissections and surgical cases. The results demonstrate that the EEA transpterygoid approach provides adequate exposure and maneuverability for accessing the medial petrous apex, while the translacerum extension allows for further exposure to the inferior petrous apex. The contralateral transmaxillary corridor provides additional exposure to the region behind the petrous and paraclival carotid. [Extracted from the article] |
