This article, published in the Journal of Neurological Surgery, explores the efficacy of using an inferior free mucosal graft for sellar reconstruction in a neurosurgery-only pituitary practice. The study reviewed 68 consecutive endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) procedures and found that while there were intraoperative low flow cerebrospinal fluid leaks in 38% of cases, there were no postoperative leaks when using a collagen inlay allograft for primary dural repair and an onlay free mucosal graft harvested from the inferior nasal floor for sellar reconstruction. The authors conclude that the free mucosal graft is a simple and effective technique that can be used without the expertise of a rhinologist. [Extracted from the article] |
