Abstrakt: This article, published in the Journal of Neurological Surgery, discusses the use of selective resection of the medial wall of the cavernous sinus (CS) in endoscopic pituitary surgery. The study, conducted at the Mayo Clinic, evaluated patients who underwent this procedure between January 2022 and June 2023. The results showed that complete tumor resection was achieved in all cases, and complete biochemical remission was seen in 100% of functional adenomas. Complications were reported in a few cases, including pulmonary embolism and sino-nasal infection, but no fatalities or major injuries were reported. The authors conclude that resection of the medial wall of the CS is associated with high rates of disease control and can be useful in both functioning and nonfunctional adenomas.
