Abstrakt: Evaluation of the double can seamer machine has been carried out by conducting a seaming trial using commercial aluminum cans with a volume of 330 mL and a head diameter of 52 mm containing ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) juice drinks. The can seamer used in this study was a semi-automatic tin can seamer, a double seaming type with a seaming speed of 5 sec per can. The number of samples was 100 seamed cans. Measurements were carried out at four points, viz., at the quarter circle of the can. Seam quality was evaluated by measuring the external and internal parameters. External parameters consist of seam thickness and seam length, while internal parameters are actual overlap, internal body hook length, and internal seam length. Internal parameters measurements began with trimming the canned lid that had been seamed at predetermined points. Afterward, the sliced cans were visually evaluated using a micro-camera to capture the parameters. The average seam thickness was 1.24±0.027 mm, with a length of 2.655±0.443 mm, an actual overlap of 0.483±0.11 mm, an internal body hook length of 0.696±0.117 mm, an internal seam length of 0.885±0.127, an overlap rating of 55.1%, and the body hook butting of 79.0%. All seamed cans were not leaking, and the quality of the external parameter was stable with a standard deviation (SD) of less than 2%. However, SD for internal parameters was still high (14–24%). The study indicated that modifying the roller holder construction is necessary to make a stable seaming process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
