Evaluation of advanced potato clones for late blight tolerance and chips processing purposes.

Abstrakt: One of the uses of potatoes in the industrial sector is as a raw material for chips. The chip industry is currently dominated by the use of the Atlantic variety. However, this variety has low tuber production and is susceptible to late blight. Alternative varieties are needed as raw materials for potato chips with high yields as well as resistance or tolerance to late blight. In 2021, a study was conducted to evaluate the superiority of advanced potato clones in terms of yield, resistance to late blight, and suitability for chips. Four advanced clones and three comparison varieties were planted in a farmer field, Garut Regency, in a completely randomized block design with 4 replications. And in parallel, an evaluation of resistance to late blight was also carried out in the greenhouse. The evaluation found that clone BM 17 produced the highest yield (24.04 tons per hectare), was tolerant of late blight and was suitable for chips. This clone has specific characteristics, namely very weak intensity of purple flowers, red eye buds, and yellow tuber flesh. Furthermore, this clone has been registered under the name Matra Agrihorti. For the next step, this variety can be disseminated at the farmer level and used as raw material for chips in small and medium industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
