Abstrakt: A recent meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in Iran explored the association between advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a common endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age and is characterized by hormonal imbalances. The study found that there is a significant increase in circulating AGE levels in females with PCOS compared to healthy females, suggesting that AGEs may serve as potential biomarkers for PCOS. However, the analysis also revealed significant heterogeneity between the studies, indicating the presence of various factors influencing this association. Subgroup analyses based on body mass index, age, and insulin resistance further demonstrated differential effects of AGEs on specific subgroups. Overall, this research supports the link between elevated AGE levels and PCOS and highlights the potential role of AGEs as biomarkers in diagnosing the condition. [Extracted from the article]
