Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands examined the impact of allocation policies and living donor liver transplantation on waitlist mortality in young patients with biliary atresia (BA). The study found that the implementation of a new allocation rule by the Eurotransplant Liver Intestine Advisory Committee (ELIAC) in 2014 led to a decrease in waitlist mortality for young patients with BA. This decrease was attributed to a higher proportion of patients undergoing living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) rather than deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT). The study suggests that prioritizing LDLT may be an effective strategy for reducing waitlist mortality in this patient population. [Extracted from the article] |
