Abstrakt: A recent systematic review conducted by researchers at Universidad Catolica de Valencia San Vicente Martir in Spain examined the characteristics and prognosis of combined Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The study found that combined MCC and SCC tumors have a similar prognosis to pure MCC tumors, regardless of whether they are positive or negative for Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV). The most common histopathological pattern observed was SCC in situ combined with dermal MCC. The findings suggest that all MCPyV-negative MCC tumors, whether combined or pure, are part of a common spectrum. [Extracted from the article]
