Abstrakt: The use of local herbs in the treatment of small infectious diseases is very common in traditional medicine. The present study reports the antibacterial properties of aqueous extracts of Cynodon dactylon (Doob), Cannabis sativa (Bhang), and Datura stramonium (Datura) on three pathogenic bacterial strains Escherichia coli, Streptococcus pneumonia, and Staphylococcus aureus. The local herbal species that is C. dactylon (Doob), C. sativa (Bhang), and D. stramonium (Datura) are used commonly to treat various bacterial infections and diseases. The development of new antibacterial agents against resistant pathogens is increasing. Therefore, the aqueous extract from different parts of the three local herbs used locally as medicine were evaluated for their antibacterial activity. It was found that among four aqueous extracts the Datura fruit extract may have antibacterial properties and it may be used as an alternative to antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. This information could help to discover new drugs for the pharmaceutical industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
