In today's world, plastic trash has become a major issue. To manage the huge volume of waste developed, recycling isnot the only solution. Furthermore, although supply is uncertain, demand for petroleum products is rising. As a result, the industrial sector is exploring for novel material substitutes to minimise reliance on petroleum and fossil fuels. Natural fibre composites (NFCs) are a great way to solve this issue. Generally, flax fibers are used as reinforcement for the development of the green composites and fibers have been investigated for mechanical properties. In the present research work, untreated and surfacetreated flax fibers were characterized using infrared spectroscopy. The purpose of the study was to scrutinize the chemical interactions between the fibres and the chemical agents. The chemical compositions of untreated flax fibres and surface treated flax fibres can also be determined using FTIR. The Fourier Transform Infrared was used to emphasise the most prominent absorption bands of various molecular components of flax fibres in order to better understand the interaction that happens between the fibre and a polymer matrix.
