This article discusses the development of sustainable synthetic methods for the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and other materials. The focus is on the synthesis of benzimidazole-fused phenanthridines, a class of heterocyclic compounds with various applications. The authors describe a new intramolecular radical C-N coupling reaction mediated by N-iodosuccinimide (NIS) in trifluoroethanol (TFE), which allows for the formation of these compounds in high yields. The document provides detailed procedures for the synthesis and characterization of specific compounds using this method, including their physical properties and spectroscopic data. The supporting information for the article is available online and includes control experiments, characterization data, and NMR spectra. [Extracted from the article] |
