A study conducted at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Kedah, Malaysia, compared the effectiveness of two techniques for administering genicular nerve block (GNB) in treating chronic knee osteoarthritis (OA). The study included 40 patients with chronic knee OA who received GNB, with 20 patients receiving ultrasound-guided (USG) GNB and the other 20 receiving anatomical landmark-guided (ALG) GNB. Both groups reported significant reductions in pain, stiffness, and functional limitation scores after treatment, but the USG group showed greater reductions in these scores compared to the ALG group. The study concluded that both techniques are effective, but USG may be more effective, although ALG remains a viable treatment option in settings without USG facilities. [Extracted from the article] |
