A study conducted at Arba Minch University in Ethiopia investigated the prevalence of anemia among malaria patients with and without soil-transmitted helminths (STH). The study found that anemia was a severe clinical outcome associated with co-infection of malaria and STH. The prevalence of anemia was higher in malaria patients with multiple STH co-infections. The study concluded that the management of malaria should consider STH infections, and anti-helminthic treatments should be considered to protect the population from exacerbation of anemia.
