A recent study conducted by Cairo University in Egypt investigated the causes of anterior granulomatous uveitis in children living in rural areas who swim in water canals. The researchers examined samples from 50 children with eye lesions that did not respond to medical treatment. They found Toxoplasma gondii, a parasite, in 30 of the samples. The study suggests that the bacteria associated with the parasite may have entered the body through an external route rather than the circulatory system. The findings challenge previous assumptions about the role of trematodes in ocular diseases in this population. [Extracted from the article] |
