A recent study conducted by researchers from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) focuses on Actinic Cheilitis (AC), also known as "sailor's lips." AC is a premalignant pathology that can progress to lip carcinoma if not diagnosed and prevented in a timely manner. The study aimed to identify the main risk and prognostic factors of AC and develop a clinical protocol for dental surgeons to facilitate identification and treatment. The research emphasizes the important role of dentists in identifying risk groups, early recognition of the disease, and making appropriate referrals for specialized care.
