A recent study conducted at the Medical University Sofia in Bulgaria focused on the molecular epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance of Haemophilus influenzae isolates from otitis media (OM) cases in Bulgaria. The researchers aimed to estimate the distribution of encapsulated and non-capsulated variants of H. influenzae, as well as their antibiotic susceptibility. The study found that non-typable strains from biotype I were the most common among H. influenzae isolates recovered from children with otitis media in Bulgaria. The population structure of the isolates was genetically diverse, with a predominance of international type 2 isolates. [Extracted from the article] |
