Pharmacovigilance (PV) is the science and activities related to detecting, assessing, understanding, and preventing adverse effects and other medicine-related problems. Its main goal is to minimize harm by medicines and protect public health. However, there is a need for more research on the effectiveness and public health consequences of PV activities at the population level. PV should focus on generating knowledge relevant to clinical practice, engaging patients to share their experiences, accelerating the generation of knowledge through new technologies, and improving the dissemination and communication of PV knowledge. Trustworthy and accessible information on drug safety is crucial, especially in the post-modern world where misinformation is prevalent. Overall, PV needs to be integrated more deeply into the healthcare system and cooperate with healthcare professionals and patients to improve its impact. [Extracted from the article] |
