Children’s learning in math: The effects of an educational program.

Abstrakt: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a methodology to assess the performance of Decision Making Units (DMUs). In recent years, DEA has been used to measure the efficiency and the effectiveness of various organizations. In the educational systems, one of the most important issues is choosing the best teaching method among the various educational patterns to teach the difficult concepts to the students. For example, the fraction concept is one of the most difficult concepts in Mathematics. Learning this concept requires to a series of mathematical procedures consist of the cognitive and the skill-based procedures. Therefore, the important question that arises is which method is the best to teach the fraction concept? This study focuses on the effectiveness of the educational designs, Dick and Carey, Merrill and Control, on the students’ performance of the elementary schools to understand the fraction concept. For this purpose, we use some educational designs to teach the fraction concept to the sixth-garde students of an elementary school in Tehran in 2018-2019 and suggest a DEA model to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching design patterns on the students. Also, we present a statistical analysis for a more accurate comparison of the educational designs, Dick and Carey, Merrill and Control, on the students’ performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
