Abstrakt: New biodiversity net gain (BNG) rules for England's planning system have caused a lack of clarity, with the implementation of a statutory minimum of 10% BNG for new developments being delayed. However, the influence of BNG rules has already been felt, with several local planning authorities (LPAs) requiring or encouraging a percentage net gain higher than 10%. The research also shows regional variations, with the South East having the highest number of LPAs with policies requiring more than 10% BNG. Developers are seeking innovative ways to meet the BNG requirements, including providing offsite BNG and passing responsibility for maintenance to others. [Extracted from the article]
